The RosaryThe Rosary
The origin of the Rosary.
The rosary as it is known and used today only began being used at the time of St. Dominic is 1208 when he believed he had seen an apparition of Mary (page on apparitions to follow soon). At this apparition she apparently told him "One day through the Rosary and the Scapular I will save the world".
To begin with this statement can not be considered true from Mary or any spirit related to the Lord our God. Why not? Because it is through Christ's atoning blood that man is saved ~ the scapular and the rosary will not save you. You can wear the scapular and repeat the rosary 1000's of times but unless you have truly repented, confessed your sin to the Lord your God and accepted Christ as your personal saviour you can not and will not enjoy the free gift of eternal life.
Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
The counting of prayers was practiced earlier by monks chanting the Psalms, although not in the repetative form that it is now done.
Before the time of Jesus repetative prayers were common amongst pagans for praying to the false gods. This is why Jesus made a point of teaching the wrongness of this act;
"When you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words" (Matthew 6:6,7).
Jesus clearly taught us who to address our prayers too. 'Pray to your Father'.
Again you have to wonder if the supposed apparition of Mary could be real when we look at this chapter of scripture and see quite clearly that it is against the teachings of our Lord. If this apparition had been that of Mary wouldn't she have agreed with the teachings of her Son and ensured that the prayers we offer up are spontaneous and from the heart?
Hindu's, Buddhists, Taoists and Muslims have used similar beads and methods to chant repetative prayers to their gods. The ancient hebrew pagans used a length of rope with knots tied in it to remember their prayers.
Catholic's deny having anything to do with pagan rituals but given just a few facts and this powerful verse from Scripture how can you honestly continue to offer up your prayers using the rosary in the certainty that your Father in heaven is hearing you? There is no biblical example of people using methods such as this for praying and quite simply ~ it goes against the Word of God!

The truth about the holy rosaryThe Catholic Church has not and does not officially teach or proclaim a private devotion as doctrine or dogma, required by faith or the practice of all believers. As any individual Christian has private devotions, so also has even the Bishop of Rome. Should even these private devotions be performed in public no universal teaching is intended.
The prayer of the rosary is in reality a variety of prayers, many totally scriptural.
The Apostles Creed c. 700 AD
I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell, and on the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen
Mt 6:9-13
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one.
Christian doxology (cf. Rev 4:
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Lk 1:28
Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.
Lk 1:42
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
Lk 1:43; (see also the Council of Ephesus, 431)
"the mother of my Lord" (Holy Mary, Mother of God.)
Prayer of petition; confession of sinfulness
Pray for us sinners;
Petitioning Mary dates to 3rd century
now and at the hour of our death. Amen
The sign of the cross; invoking the Holy Trinity
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen
It is difficult to see how some Christians can criticize the private prayer life of other Christians. One such criticism centers on the element of repetition of the prayer, "Hail Mary." But to even the casual reader of the word of God it must be apparent that the writers of the Bible--and God Himself--used the repetition of words and expressions in prayer.
The Bible uses repetition to indicate emphasis and the highest degree of something. E.g. Isaiah 6:3

<< Matthew 6 >>
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly °.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Repeating and repetition of the same prayer over and over again tends to dull the mind and cause boredom. Such repetitions are vain and pagan as I pointed in my opening study.

RosaryPraying the rosary properly does not cause boredom and a dulling of the mind, because whilst the prayers are being prayed a sacred Christian mystery is supposed to be meditated upon. e.g. the ressurection, the temptation in the garden , the nativity ect. The pagans may have done something similar but the content of the prayers and the mysteries of the Rosary are completely Christian.

Where is Mary a mediator? Where does it say that "Blessed are you Mary among the angels or God"? There is nothing wrong against repitition as long as it is not vain but if you are praying to Mary then it is "meaningless" prayer because she is not God and never will be because she is a sinner just like you and I.
